3 things you should know about my modern school photos

Apr 16, 2018 | Fine Art School Portraits, School Photo Day

ONE | MY VISION

Fine art school photos are not about capturing what the camera sees, its about capturing what the artist see’s…..in my case, what me as the photographer sees. I think kids are fascinating. My aim is to capture the uniqueness and personality of each child that I meet. I want their personalities to shine through, be that with a smile, a frown, a silly face or pensive gaze, and by doing this evoke emotion in the viewer, the most important viewers being their Mam & Dad. I love hearing comments like….I don’t know how you did it but wow that is so Peter…….The photos of Laura are just beautiful, we love them……..Thank you so much, we will treasure these forever. So lets leave the dated photos behind for modern school photos instead.

IT JUST MAKES MY DAY!

TWO | MY APPROACH

Knowing how to make my vision a reality is key. To do this I know exactly what I’m going to do before I even get to the photoshoot location. I always use a black background, shoot close, shoulders up, landscape orientation and using natural light. I know where to set up to get the lighting right and most important how to use my camera to get the look and style I want. Much like a baker uses an oven to make bread; I use my camera to create art.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE HAVE FUN!

I take the time to chat with the kids and have my little secret tips and tricks to capture real emotion, genuine smiles and lots of personality. No posing or forced smiles to be found here!

THREE | MY WORK

Sometimes, I have a hard time calling myself an artist…..I wonder does my work measure up to the definition of art or is it comparable to what everyone else is doing…..And then I think how boring it would be if we were all the same, creating the same and I tell myself that when my one and two above come together, my art is created. It’s unique to me and it doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing. Just so you know….I have to remind myself of this all the time! I also know that not everyone will like it and thats ok too as we all have our own personal tastes and preferences.

WHY I LOVE MODERN SCHOOL PHOTOS AND BELIEVE ITS IMPORTANT

When you look through my portfolio I hope that you can see what my style is……….unique, personal and timeless portraits. Kids change and grow up so quickly, its important to capture them as they grow and develop. It’s lovely to have photos displayed in our homes, to share photos with family & friends and to look back at old photos and reminisce.

If you like my work and would like to know more about the school photography service, please get in touch.

So happy you stopped by…….have a great day!
