OH WHAT TO WEAR, WHAT TO WEAR…
Deciding what to wear to any event can be difficult, you want to look your best and feel comfortable yet stylish. Add in your family members to the mix and you can get really stressed! Well I’m here to give you a few simple tips and tricks to make planning your outfits for your family photography session a little easier. You never know, it might actually be fun! So here are a few tips on what to wear to your family photo session.
DON’T MATCH | COORDINATING WORKS BEST
Gone are the days of everyone wearing the same outfit, it can look a bit cheesy and doesn’t tend to stand the test of time. Choosing one base colour and adding pops of complementing colours to each person’s outfit can work really well. Combining different patterns of the same colors and shades can also work really well. You can check out my PINTEREST board here which has some idea’s for family clothing and colours.
AVOID GRAPHICS & NEON
Try to avoid neons, graphics and large logos. Kids t-shirts and jumpers with superhero’s and football jerseys are best avoided if possible as they don’t photograph well and can look very dated in years to come. Neon colours are also a big no as they will cast neon colours onto their faces.
LAYERS
Layers can be great to add depth, texture and interest to your photos. Think hats, scarves, blazers, tights, jackets, body warmers and accessories. They also come in handy if the weather changes suddenly; which can happen a lot in Ireland!
WEAR CLOTHES THAT FLATTER YOU
Don’t wear something to your session that makes you feel self conscious and uncomfortable. Be sure to pick something that makes you feel good. For example, if you are conscious of your arms, don’t wear sleeveless or cropped sleeve tops/dresses, choose a 3/4 length or full sleeve instead.
BE COMFORTABLE
Being comfortable in what you are wearing is probably the most important point to make. If you feel comfortable in your clothes, you will look comfortable in your photos.
PLAN IN ADVANCE WHAT TO WEAR TO YOUR FAMILY PHOTO SESSION
Give yourself time to plan out the family clothes in advance of the photo session; try not to leave it to the morning of the photo session! It can help to start with your own outfit first and then build everyone else’s around it.
DON’T FORGOT TO BE YOURSELF
At the end of the day, these are just my opinions and I honestly don’t mind what my families wear to their session as long as they look like themselves and feel comfortable.
